Why Celebrate a Birthday??

I was thinking, ok, my birthday is coming up, whipty doo. Another year, and I'm grateful for it, but it's nothing to celebrate. Is it?

I mean, what's to celebrate? Why do adult people celebrate their birthdays? Is it vain to want everyone to reward you with gifts and cake for being in this world another year? I got stuck on this last night. Good thing my buddy got me unstuck.

Hubby goes "It IS a special day, God created you and you are thankful for Him giving you life, and giving you another year. Also, I can show you how special you are to me." From what he was saying, I got it. It's not about me wanting to celebrate me, it's about me celebrating life and the gift of life that I've been given. That's worth celebrating. Hey... get my groove on now! Hands up!! Now slide!! Funky chicken! Whoop whoop! 39 and feeling FINE!!

Some say a real woman doesn't tell her age. I'm going to say a real woman can be proud to tell, as each year was a special gift, and she's thankful for how far her creator as brought her.

I have the same struggles with celebrating my birthday as an adult. When I turned 27, I celebrated my birthday for the 1st time since turning 24 and it was awesome. Then I didn't do it again. But this year when I turn 30, I'm going to really celebrate. Because I have had a tough year and I am being conscious of being thankful for the god things in life. Being alive, having family and friends are reason enough to be grateful. Enjoy your birthday! :)

Your husband is right and I'm glad he set you straight. There are thousands of people that wished that had one more year! As far as tell age...I have no problem with it. I think I really look great for 53 and I'm proud of it. Everyone says I look like I'm in my early 40's and I agree! If I were to lie about my age, I would lie up! If I were to make anyone believe that I was 60, imagine how many compliments I'd get them!

Happy (early) Birthday! What a great point your husband made. I guess birthdays are really less all about us, and more about being thankful for the years we've had and the people who love us!

Yes, Every day is a blessing from God. I amazed at how good God has been to me in allowing me to see my children grow, to have an amazing husband who loves the Lord and people as well.
Truly my boundary lines have fallen in pleasant places and that is worth celebrating.

Have a great B'day whatever you do EVE.

Luv Lisa.

Happy birthday in advance Eve. Sometimes I say the same too about celebrating birthdays. What matters is that we are healthy and we are with our best mates (best hubbies).

I don't do it for gifts I celebrate it for me and anything else I get from friends and love ones are a bonus.

I generally if I am working take the day off, and always plan to spend at least 3 to five hours on my own revelling in being me, then i come home to finish the celebrations of home made cake and kiddy made cards with my family. what more could i need.

Our extended family are great too and big number birthdays are always celebrated with a large get together involving lots of laughter and fooooood :)

Every birthday is special and should be celebrated but it doesn't matter whether its a big or small celebration, the key word is to celebrate it :)
